Mary of the Snows
The Sanctuary grew up around a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Child of popular art around 15th century. T
he area was frequently threatened by the Turks; the statue was hidden and rediscovered on two different occasions in 16th and 17th centuries.
The Sanctuary is surrounded by a huge covered area intended for confessions.
Pope John-Paul II visited the Sanctuary as a pilgrim on 3rd October 1998.
The Feast of the Sanctuary lasts from 1st to 6th August (another feast is kept on 13th July).
